Commensals on whip coral
Whip corals, or wire corals, belong to a group of black corals, most common in the tropical and subtropical sea. You can find many interesting critters and they blends colors and patterns in perfectly with this coral.
- Wire coral crab / Xeno crab – Xenocarcinus tuberculatus
I guess commensals gain protection from the coral but the whip coral has no direct benefit.
Whip coral 또는 wire coral이라고도 하는 회초리 산호에 속하는 이 산호에는 다양한 생물들이 공생하고 있습니다. 특히 몇가지 종의 멋진 새우들이 적들로 부터 쉽게 눈에 띄이 않도록 산호의 색상과 완벽하게 조화를 이루고 있습니다. 하지만 정작 집을 제공하는 회초리 산호는 얻는것이 무엇일까요?

I just returned from the trip to Bali, Indonesia.
This trip was underwater video shooting for TV documentary about artificial reef, Bio-Rock project at Taman Sari Resort, Pemuteran in Bali, Indonesia. Additionally, we made some footage at Tulamben and Nusa Penida island.
In front of Taman Sari resort, you can find more then 60 Bio-Rock structure and reef was amazingly healthy even in high water temperature. We could see these healthy hard corals on electirc wired structures giving positive effects on natural coral area as well. After few days of diving at this site, I can say Bio-Rock project is Bali’s most successful attempt at reef re-generation.

packing – uw photographer’s ultimate challenge
오늘 (2월 23일)부터 인도네시아 암본, 렘베, 마나도로 약 2주간 촬영갑니다. 암본은 작년 5월에 이어 두번째인데 이번엔 underwater.kr의 촬영가들과 함께하는 여행이라 더욱 의미가 있습니다.
매번 가방 갯수는 늘어나는 듯 하는데 공간은 여전히 부족합니다. 최근엔 항공사들의 빡빡한 규정때문에 짐 싸는 것에 신경을 쓰지 않을 수 없네요. 불필요한 것은 빼고 꼭 필요한 것만 챙긴다는 것이 촬영가들에게는 그다지 쉬운 일은 아닌듯 합니다(꼭 현장에서 왜 그걸 가지오지 않았을까 후회하는 일이 생기곤 하니까요).

암본 일정후에 다시 찾을 렘베와 마나도에서는 그동한 생각해 두었던 몇가지 아이디어를 차분하게 시도해 보려고 하고 있습니다. 다녀와서 다시 뵙지요. :)

항상 다른 다이버의 모습이나 물속 생물들 모습만 촬영하다가 문득 내가 물속에서 어떤 모습일까 하는 궁금증이 생기기도 한다. 예전에는 거의 솔로이거나 비 촬영가들과 다이빙을 하다보니 내가 사진에 찍힐 기회조차 없었지만 최근에 국내에서 다이빙을 시작하고 모두 촬영을 목적으로 하시는 분들과 함께 하다보니 사진속에 모습을 남기는 기회가 자연스럽게 많아졌다.
다음 사진들의 내 모습은 지난 8월 첫 동해 나곡 다이빙때 박정권(참복)님께서 촬영하신 사진이다. 참복님은 국내 다이빙에 대해서 깜깜한 나에게 많은 도움을 주고 계시기도 한 수중 촬영가이다.
난파선의 기둥에 붙어서 크게 자란 말미잘을 촬영하려고 하던 모습이다.
마침 김동현(다이뻐)님이 포즈를 취해주셔서 아래와 같은 사진이 나왔다.
눈송이갯민숭이(Sakuraeolis sp.)를 촬영하고 있는 모습이다.
토키나 10-17mm 렌즈 + 젠 100mm 미니돔 사용중.
얼굴도 보이지 않고 괴물 팔다리 같은 카메라 장비와 한몸이 되어 있는듯한 사진들이지만 무엇인가 열중해 있는 모습을 보는 것은 그때의 상황들을 뚜렷하게 머리속에 떠오르게 해준다.
